Social services
The main task of the Department of Social Care and Health of the Košice Self-governing Region is to coordinate, provide and fund regional policies, priorities and responsibilities in social and health care. The Region brings direct assistance to its citizens mainly by providing social care to people who find themselves in a difficult life situation, putting social counselling at the heart of the Department. The First Contact Office set up at the Department helps clients to understand the complex system of social care. The Department also provides interpreting services and ensures legal protection of children’s rights and interests.
The Košice Self-governing Region provides social care and services in 13 various facilities of its own and co-funds several private facilities. Region’s own facilities include care homes, housing facilities for people in need, domestic violence shelters, transitional housing for young adults leaving care, emergency shelters, facilities of supported housing, social service centres, specialized and integration centres and a physiotherapy centre. It also provides interpreting services, basic social counselling and other forms of social service. The Region keeps a register of social care providers and supervises the quality of provided care.
