Basic Information in Help of Ukraine
As a subject of crisis management, the Košice Self-governing Region is involved in helping Ukrainian residents, who had to leave their homes due to the war.
Emergency and asylum facilities
The Košice Self-governing Region has opened emergency and asylum facilities for war refugees. Accommodation there is coordinated by the Košice District Office. The following tourist hostels, Secondary School dormitories, and gyms are currently in operation:

Free Hotline in Support of Ukraine
Free Hotline serves mainly war refugees. Regional volunteers continuously provide information in Slovak and Ukrainian, about accommodation, transport connections, conditions of asylum applications, the right to employment, or education. It is also for everyone who wants to help war refugees in any way.
Information stands at the stations
At the railway and bus stations in Košice and the railway station in Michalovce, the Košice Region has set up information stands, where war refugees will receive basic information about accommodation, volunteers will help them find the necessary transport connections or buy a ticket. The region issued a leaflet with the most necessary information.
Humanitarian Aid Warehouse for Ukraine
The Region has set up a humanitarian aid warehouse on the premises of a large-capacity Vaccination Centre at the Secondary School of Information Technologies at 1, Ostrovského street in Košice. At present, it is necessary to assist with refreshments and overnight stays. Anyone who wants to help can buy or donate water, juices, baby food, durable food, cookies, beds, mattresses, pillows, quilts, blankets, sheets, towels, toilet paper, facial tissues, wet wipes, napkins, shower gel, toothpaste and toothbrushes, hand disinfectants, and respirators.

Volunteers currently assist at the Ukrainian border with humanitarian aid and the reception of war refugees in emergency facilities and asylum centres.

The assistance should be given priority to families with children. Private accommodation, hotels, guesthouses, hostels, and other facilities are welcome.
Situation at the border crossings with Ukraine at the territory of the Košice Region
The Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic provides up-to-date information on the situation at the border crossings with Ukraine.
All persons fleeing the war are allowed to enter the territory of the Slovak Republic.
- Vyšné Nemecké - Uzhhorod - road border crossing for passenger and freight transport, currently also intended for pedestrians, continuous operation
- Veľké Slemence - Mali Slemenci - road border crossing for pedestrians and cyclists, currently in continuous operation
- Čierna nad Tisou - Čop - railway border crossing, passenger traffic is stopped

Through the Who Will Help Ukraine initiative, you can contribute any amount. 100 percent of the money collected will be spent on humanitarian aid in Ukraine, or in the help of Ukrainians who seek security in our territory.
Free transport from the border
ARRIVA Michalovce Company, the bus carrier of the Košice Self-governing Region, operates a regular bus service from the Vyšné Nemecké border crossing to the railway station in Michalovce. View the timetables in Slovak and Ukrainian on the IDS Východ website
Free transport for citizens of Ukraine in the Košice region
Residents of Ukraine can use the services of suburban bus transport in the Košice Region free of charge. In connection with the emergency on the Slovak-Ukrainian state border caused by the military conflict in Ukraine, the Košice Self-governing Region will provide free transport to all Ukrainian citizens heading to Slovakia. Free transport applies to both contracted bus carriers of the Košice Self-governing Region (ARRIVA Michalovce and Eurobus Company). Ukrainian citizens will be provided with free transport upon identification with an identity card or passport.

Website with basic information in Ukrainian
The Government of the Slovak Republic has launched the website for people from Ukraine coming to Slovakia in their mother tongue. All the necessary information about travel documents, asylum and working conditions, school attendance, and health care options are included in the Ukrainian and Slovak languages.
