Košice Region – the second most innovative Slovak region

The research, development, and innovation (RDI) potential is mainly represented by numerous internationally recognised universities, Institutes of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, and private R&D institutions.

The Košice Region also has the second largest share of R&D employees in Slovakia. In the year 2014, the total of 3,927 R&D employees worked in the Košice Region, specifically:

• 681 in the natural sciences
• 1,625 in technical sciences
• 558 in medical and pharmaceutical sciences
• 347 in agricultural sciences
• 397 in social sciences
