Once established in 2002, the Košice Self-governing Region has been open to all forms of cooperation, both domestic and foreign. After accession of Slovakia to the EU in May 2004, the need of Slovak Regions for mutual and external cooperation intensified. As a result, representation of the Slovak Regions in Brussels - the House of Slovak Regions (HSR) opened on May 26, 2005 with the aim to promote Regions’ interests.
HSR successfully established itself in the Brussels environment and it soon became well-known to the professional community thanks to a number of specialized and cultural activities it held. It became a meeting place for the Slovak Regions and Slovakia with other Brussels-based institutions. Simultaneously, the HSR informed various Slovak players (not only the Regions) about EU affairs through an e-Newsletter called „Inflow“. The House of Slovak Regions in Brussels hosted a number of visitors from Slovakia including ministers, politicians, civil servants, entrepreneurs, journalists and students.
The House of Slovak Regions terminated its activity on December 31, 2010 following the decision of several Regions to cancel their Brussels representation as a result of the financial crisis. The Liaison Office of the Košice Region has then moved to the new premises in Square de Meeus 1 and continues to fulfil its tasks in the EU capital.
